Roland Dane will step back from his role as team principal and managing director of Triple Eight Engineering at the end of the year.
Dane has become synonymous with Triple Eight’s dominance in the Supercars championship over the last 16 years.
Over that time, the team’s full-time drivers – Jamie Whincup, Shane van Gisbergen and Craig Lowndes – have added series crowns and Bathurst 1000 victories to their CVs under Dane’s stewardship.
Founding Triple Eight in 1996 in the UK, the Irish-born Dane took over the Briggs Motorsport outfit in 2003, joining the Supercars grid full-time in 2004.
After a disappointing inaugural season, the team saw a U-Turn in performance when Dane recruited ex-Stone Brothers Racing engineer Campbell Little to join the fold.
The team has since won eight drivers’ titles, eight manufacturers’ titles, and eight Bathurst 1000 titles.
Dane’s role will be filled by seven-time series champion Whincup from 2022, who announced his retirement from full-time driving today.
The two will work together over the current year to best prepare Whincup for his new role.

Dane also welcomed Tony Quinn, owner of Highlands Motorsport Park and Hampton Downs, as a major shareholder of the team.

He will remain as a part-time advisor to the team from 2022 and keep an 11 per cent stake in the team.
“Since Jamie expressed an interest some years ago in continuing his career in motorsport with Triple Eight after he retires from full-time driving, the plan has always been for him to take over the reins,” Dane said.
“He has proved himself to be an integral part of the Triple Eight family during his 15 years here and has absolutely nothing to prove on track.
“I have every confidence that he will approach his new role with the same motivation, diligence and competitive spirit that he brings to the track each round.
“Covid-19 has reminded me that I am not getting any younger and I am looking forward to having more time on my hands to enjoy different forms of motorsport and to spend more time with my eldest daughter in the UK.”
Dane’s final season at Triple Eight’s helm kicks off with the Mount Panorama 500 on February 27-28.
