Liam Lawson is set to race a Ferrari 488 GT3 in the 2021 DTM as part of Red Bull’s return to the German series.
Reports from Autosport suggest that Lawson and teammate Alex Albon will run a 488 GT3 under the AF Corse team.
Given their support of Red Bull’s Formula 1 team, Honda had emerged as the most likely candidate to field a pair of cars for the two drivers. But the Japanese manufacturer has reportedly said they see no marketing value in the series.
The other option was Aston Martin. But a dieal with the British marque has since fallen through following their split with Red Bull in F1.
Lawson has only briefly experienced a GT3 machine. In last year’s NZ Endurance Championship, he steered an Audi R8 campaigned by Track Tec Racing.
Having been made to start last after an incident in qualifying, Lawson and co-driver Scott O’Donnell managed to claw themselves back to third to round off the overall podium.
What are RB looking for from Liam putting him in this series? Gotta be more then giving Albon a rival teammate.
