2019 SuperUte champion Tom Alexander is set to hit Western Springs Speedway tomorrow night for a crack of midget racing.
Alexander will be racing in an HLR-prepared F2 Midget (number 19A2). The night is the last meeting at the Auckland Speedway before Christmas and will feature the NZ Sprintcar Grand Prix and round one of the BT Memorial Midget Series.
Headlining the entry list are multiple Kiwi champions Michael Pickens, Jamie Larsen and Rodney Wood.
“Well this should be interesting,” joked Alexander whose speedway experience is significantly dwarfed by his circuit racing success.
“Pretty pumped to be having a skid the 19A2 HLR F2 Midget this Saturday night at Western Springs Speedway 2020.
“Massive thanks to Geoff from HLR Racing NZ for the opportunity.
“If you wanna see a circuit boy make a fool of himself on dirt you might be in for a treat.”
Hailing from Christchurch, Alexander has achieved plenty of national circuit racing success, highlighted by his 2015 triumph of the Toyota 86 Series.
He then had stints in the NZ Touring Car Championship where he finished runners up, as well as seasons in the NZ Formula Ford Championship.
Last year saw him team up with the Ross Stone Racing outfit for a second attempt in the Australian SuperUte Series.
Eight consecutive podiums in the final eight races, including a trio of race wins, saw him edge out Aussie racer Cameron Crick for the title.
Outside of racing, Alexander is also a respected driver coach and passes on the wisdom taught to him by mentor Kenny Smith.
