The TCR Australia series is expected to go ahead with its season-opening round from Sydney Motorsport Park on March 27-29.
The series is the leading act in a recently rebranded Shannons Motorsport Australian Championship.
As initially reported by speedcafe.com, TCR and all the event’s support classes are set to continue to run on the scheduled date.
However, the Australian Government have advised that all unnecessary gatherings that exceed 500 people should be cancelled amid the coronavirus pandemic. Thus, should the event go ahead, it would likely be run behind closed doors.
A standalone TCR Pacific Asia round was scheduled for the Australian Grand Prix where sole New Zealand team Track Tec Racing and their kiwi driver Jack Milligan were present for a no-show event after the weekend was cancelled.
An official announcement is expected by Motorsport Australia within the coming days to confirm the future status of the event.
