The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is the latest global racing series to venture into the realm of virtual racing.
31 drivers will take to the grid for this weekend’s first of four online races, 22 of which are full-time Supercup drivers and among them being 23-year-old kiwi Jaxon Evans.
By now, Evans should have completed a two-day pre-season test with his new Lechner Racing team. The young New Zealander is also in his second season as Porsche Junior driver, one of two in this year’s Supercup field.
“The Supercup is the pinnacle of Porsche’s one-make cups. I’m delighted that we’ve managed to come up with a great alternative under the current circumstances with no real motor racing,” said Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup project manager Oliver Schwab.
“We have a top-class field and I’m very excited to see who’ll perform the best on a screen.”
Porsche Formula E driver Andre Lotterer and development drivers Simona de Silvestro and Thomas Preining will also feature in the event.
The online championship will include four official circuits used in the real-life Supercup.
The inaugural race is from Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with other rounds scheduled for Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps and Monza.
The event begins from 3 am NZT Sunday, April 5 and will be broadcasted live and free on motorsports.porsche.com.
