Western Springs, Waikaraka Park and Bay Speedway will again combine to host the 2024/25 Midget World Series this summer.
The five-round series begins on Boxing Day with the 30 Lap World Derby at Western Springs before ‘Bay Superstars’ at Baypark on December 28.
Teams remain in Tauranga for ‘The Bay51’ on December 30 before returning to Auckland for ‘The Fast 40’ at Waikaraka Park on New Year’s Day.
The 50-lap Midget Classic at Western Springs concludes the series on January 2.
Drivers from the United States, Australia and New Zealand are set to go head-to-head over the two-week competition. Star competitors Thomas ‘T-Mez’ Meseraull and Michael ‘Buddy’ Kofoid were amongst those to compete in the 2023/24 series, to mixed success.
Eleven-time New Zealand Midget racing Champion Michael Pickens triumphed in last season’s edition, pipping Kofoid in a final race thriller.
Other competitors who have previously made the trip to New Zealand during the American off-season to compete include NASCAR Cup stars Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell.
Larson, however, will be in Australia for ‘The High Limit International’ in December, a three-day Sprintcar event at the Perth Motorplex from December 28 to 30.
Driver announcements for the 2024/25 Midget World Series are expected over the coming months.
The series presents the opportunity for an excellent lead-in to the New Zealand Championship, which takes place at Western Springs on January 4.
Several Kiwis are then expected to travel to the United States to compete in the ‘Super Bowl of Midget racing’, the Chili Bowl Nationals, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, from January 13 to 18.
