Organisers have confirmed that Targa New Zealand 2021 has been postponed to May 25-29 2022.
Due to the Covid-19 lockdowns in parts of the North Island organisers made the decision to delay the event, after initially trying to wait out the alert level changes.
The rescheduled event will run the existing itinerary on the new date.
A statement released by organisers explained their decision.
“Due to the government’s Covid-19 update with the continuation of the level 3 lockdowns, Targa New Zealand 2021 will be postponed to 25- 29 May 2022. It will still be a five-day event based around the Central North Island with the last two days also being a stand-alone event. Come and join us, it’s going to be a fantastic event.”
One of the main factors in their decision was the number of people they need for the event to go ahead, including volunteers, officials, medical and recovery staff, many of whom are in the regions in lockdown.
With events unable to go ahead without these support services and volunteers the decision was made.
Targa NZ experienced a number of event cancellations in 2020, with the October Targa NZ cancelled, while the Hawkes Bay event that was scheduled for May was moved and successfully held in July.
