A significant wildfire has erupted in southwest Miami-Dade County, encompassing approximately 14,000 acres (22 square miles) as of March 20, 2025.

The wildfire, which ignited earlier this week, has led to the intermittent closure of significant routes, affecting access to and from the Florida Keys. As of Thursday morning, the fire was only 20% contained, with no injuries or structural damages reported.
The Homestead-Miami Speedway is set to host a triple-header NASCAR event this weekend, featuring the Craftsman Truck Series Baptist Health 200 on Friday, the Xfinity Series Hard Rock Bet 300 on Saturday, and the Cup Series Straight Talk Wireless 400 on Sunday.
Despite concerns, city officials have stated that these events “are set to continue as scheduled.” Teams across all three series have not altered their travel plans and are proceeding as planned.
This situation recalls the 1998 Central Florida wildfires, which forced the postponement of the July NASCAR race at Daytona, which was later rescheduled to October. However, current assessments indicate that a similar disruption is unlikely for this weekend’s events at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

In conclusion, while the wildfire poses challenges to the surrounding areas, the NASCAR race weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway is set to proceed as planned, with authorities implementing measures to ensure public safety and minimal disruption to the events.
Although things can change quickly with uncontained fires and with the ongoing event occurring so close to the track, NASCAR could be forced to postpone if the fire worsens.
